Jánošíček The folklore ensemble

Brno – Czech Republic

Jánošiček, the folklore ensemble, was founded in Brno in 1988. The members of the group – children and young people between 5 and 30 years – involve, all together, nearly 90 people.
The group gathers its repertoire from the cultural traditions of the Slovak regions of Myjava, Liptov, Terchová. Horehroní, Detva, Šariš and Zemplín.

For its performances the ensemble subdivides into three sections. Each of them deals with the subjects accessible to its members’ age, though it is possible to join the individual sections for some purposes. The programme assortment is very versatile and involves the games, popular customs and coherent blocks up to self-contained dances. The group’s collective also involves a band for not only accompanying the dancers and singers during their performances, but also enriching the programme with agreeable Moravian melodies and songs presented apart. The origin of the dulcimer music of the Jánošíček Folklore Ensemble has been closely linked with the ensemble’s origins. Just as in the dancing section of the ensemble, also here many generations has taken their turns. Members of the music section have been devoted to folklore since their early childhood and have tried, through the folk-song, to share love, strength and wisdom that have strong roots deep in the folk-song. The musicians are aged from 12 to 25 years. The music mainly deals with folklore material from the regions of Slovakia and south of Moravia. The dulcimer music recorded a CD „Zahraj mi muzička pekne“ on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the ensemble in 2003 and CD “Z kade tade” on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the ensemble in 2008.

You can enjoy both 90, 60 minutes all-ensemble performances and shorter programme entries of 10 to 30 minutes.
The Janošíček folklore group’s songs and dances have made sing and dance many stages at home country and abroad. The enthusiasm and temperament that the young people put in the display of their programme will surely find the way to your hearts, will entertain you and will give you an unforgettable cultural experience.
